An intense pulsed light treatment, commonly known as an IPL treatment, is a type of light therapy used to treat a number of common skin problems. While an IPL shares similarities with a standard laser, it works a bit differently. A standard laser works by focusing a single wavelength of light. An IPL discharges multiple wavelengths of light at your skin in order to penetrate your dermis (second layer of skin) without harming the epidermis (top layer of skin). This ensures less noticeable damage to the skin and therefore less recovery time.
Since an IPL treatment is less harmful to the top layer of skin, there is considerably less down-time. This treatment can be considered a “lunch time” procedure because it usually takes less than 40 minutes, depending on how large the treatment area is.
